Types of massage

Massage at Physio Edge

Swedish/Deep Tissue Massage (1.5 hour, or 1 hour)

This type of massage consists of five basic strokes: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement (percussion), and vibration and was developed by a Swedish Physiologist in the 19th Century.

Alleviate stress, ease aching muscles, and revive the senses with this powerful massage.

Remedial Massage (1.5 hour, or 1 hour)

Remedial massage uses a base of Swedish massage techniques to achieve balance.

Although many clients who consult a remedial massage therapist have pain as a result of specific injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injuries, etc.), repetitive strain injuries (RSI) and other work-related problems, the vast majority originate in postural alignment problems that sometimes go back to childhood and adolescence.

Sports Massage (1.5 hour, or 1 hour)

The prime purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity.

Sports massage tends to be deeper and more intense. It is based on the various elements of Swedish massage and often incorporates a combination of other techniques involving stretching, compression, friction, toning, and trigger point response techniques.

Anyone can benefit from a sports massage, including people in physically demanding jobs and those with other emotional, occupational and postural stress, or those who just enjoy a deep tissue massage.

Sports Massage with Hot Stones (1.5 hour, or 1 hour) - with Anysha

The warm basalt stones help to achieve a deeper release

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (45 minutes)

Lymphatic drainage is a holistic approach to promoting a healthy lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a complex network of vessels and ducts that move fluid throughout the body and it is responsible for moving toxins away from healthy cells and carrying germ-fighting materials to cells when they are under attack. The lymphatic system does not have its own pumping mechanism and therefore, Lymphatic drainage is a type of therapy that is intended to help the body produce a free-flowing lymphatic system.

Lymphatic drainage therapy consists of a manual massage, performed by a lymphatic drainage therapist. A lymphatic drainage massage primarily focuses on specific lymph nodes and points of the body, as well as the natural flow of the lymphatic system. This process will reduce blockages of the lymphatic system, which in turn promotes a healthier body.

Pregnancy Massage (1 hour)

This gentle form of massage is safe for pregnant women in all stage of pregnancy -  and will ease muscle tension and pain associated with the pregnancy.

Since lower back and neck pain are common problems, the massage will focus on these tension areas, as well as any other painful areas in the body.

This treatment can be performed on your stomach in our special doughnut-shaped 'tummy cushion' on on alternate sides, depending on the patient's preference.
