Emma Johnston

BSc (Physio) UCT, MAACP, MCSP

Emma Johnston is a Chartered Physiotherapist who qualified in 2007 at the University of Cape Town, South Africa with a Bsc(Hons) in Physiotherapy.

On completion of her studies, she worked in Durban, South Africa, where she practiced in-patients and out-patient physiotherapy at one the Government Hospitals. Here she covered a few specialities, including respiratory, paediatrics orthopaedics, plastics (burns), post-operative surgical and outpatients at the community clinics.

In 2009 Emma moved to the UK where she worked in the NHS in respiratory, post-operative surgical and care of the elderly until moving into an out-patient role. In January 2010 she moved over to the private practice sector.

Emma has completed her Acupuncture training course (ALIED) and Pilates Matwork through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute. She has an interest in sports injuries and has been on several sports related training courses. She also has worked for various Rugby Teams, both in South Africa and also in the UK.

She is registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

 

Ana Biedma physiotherapistAna Biedma De La Torre

BSc(physio), MCSP

Ana is a Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated in 2007 from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain with a BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy.

After qualifiying, she went into private practice in the UK, working in a range of fields including orthopaedics, sports injury rehabilitation, paediatrics, post-operative surgical and eldrely care. She then specialised in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Ana is acupuncture trained, and has also done the spinal manipulation course, and is currently studying through the APPI to become Pilates-trained.

With 9 years as a professional gymnast, over 5 years coaching gymnastic teams, being a qualified Physical Education teacher (GTC registered) and a physiotherapist means that Ana is extremely qualified to treat all injuries, especially sport-related problems.

She is registered with the Health Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

 

Ilana Cohen

BSC(physio), MCSP

Ilana is a physioterapist from Australia, who has worked in the musculoskeletal and rehabilitation fields since her graduation in Melbourne.

Since arriving in London, Ilana has completed her Pilates instructor qualification. She believes in te concepts around Pilates and likes to use tem as part of her normal treatment regime.

She enjoys providing exercise and rehabilitation advice after her hands-on treatment sessions, and especially enjoys lumbar (lower back) and cervical (neck) conditions.

She joins the PhysioEdge team on a part-time basis across the 2 sites - teaching Pilates and working as a physiotherapist. She is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

 


Podiatrist/Chiropodist


Vishali Thakrar

BSc (podiatry)

Vishali graduated from Univertsity College London with a BSc in Podiatry in 2004. She has worked in both the NHS and in a number of private clinics around London, across a number of specialties, including Diabetes, Biomechanics, nail surgery and care of the elderly.

 

She currently works part-time at PhysioEdge, while studying for a Masters degree in Podiatry and continuing her position in the NHS. Vishali is also involved in teaching of Podiatry students at the University of East London.

 

Qualified to treat all foot conditions, including bunions, corns, heel painand foot pain associated to medical conditions eg Diabetes, Vishali can also prescribe orthotics after a gait and biomechanical analysis.

She is registered with the Society of Podiatrists and Chiropodists (SCP)

Biokineticist/Pilates Instuctor


Candice McLoughlin

BA (Sports Science), BHons (Biokinetics)

 

Candice completed her honours degree in Biokinetics in 2009 in Stellenbosch. She initially graduated with a BA in Sports Science, and then continued to graduate with a BHons in Biokinetics. Also, during her studies, Candice has qualified as a Sports Massage Therapist and a Personal Fitness Instructor, as well as being trained to teach Pilates.

In 2010, Candice was based at The Sports Science Institute in Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked closely with Physiotherapists, Sports Physicians, and fellow Biokineticists. She also performed gait analyses and force plate assessments alongside the Sport Science Institute Podiatrists.

Candice believes that each person should be treated holistically and treated with empathy. Her open and enquiring mind, passion for people and for the human body are the driving forces behind her motivation for working in this field.

 

Sports Therapists + Massage Therapists


Coretta Hart

BSc(hons) Sports Therapy

Coretta completed a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy from London Metropolitan University in 2009

Coretta was inspired by the benefits of massage from the beginning of her Sports Therapy degree. This led to her completing her CVTC Certificate in Swedish Massage in 2008. Following which, she further developed her sports massage skills whilst working for professional Rugby and Football teams. Through this she has gained insight into the demands and treatment requirements of elite athletes.

Coretta was a competitive athlete while living in South Africa, and currently enjoys cycling and swimming as part of her main sporting activities.

She is a member of the Society of Sports Therapists.

 

 

Rebecca Lanigan.
Massage Therapist.


Rebecca has joined the PhysioEdge team in a part-time capacity as massage therapist. She has had a passion for complimentary therapies since receiving treatments that really worked for her. It was this desire that led her to retrain as a holistic massage therapist through ITEC.

After qualifying, Becky increased her knowledge base by attending more advanced courses. These included deep tissue, remedial lower back and lower limb, as well as Thai techniques, using hands, forearms and elbows to achieve a good release.  She feels that using a variety of soft tissue techniques can improve the treatment and get the desired results. Her exprience also includes working with the local rugby clubs and outdoor fitness groups.

She also holds a WAKU GB brown belt in Muay Tai boxing.

 

Josefin Ivarsson

BSc(Hons) Sports Therapy

Josefin graduated from London Metropolitan University with a 2:1 in Sports Therapy BSc (Hons) in 2009.

She has been working with a semi-professional football club during their last two seasons and attending different sporting events providing pre and post-sports massage to athletes. This has led to a further development of her skills, knowledge and understanding of the demands of different sports and exercise.

Sport, activity and health are a passion for her. She has competed at professional level at Ten Pin Bowling while living in Sweden, as well as show jumping. She is also a keen runner and pilates enthusiast.

In 2010, Josefin returned to university to study Physiotherapy full-time, and remains on the PhysioEdge team on a part-time basis, around her studies.

Nutritional Therapy

Marianna Sulic

Nutrional Therapist - DipCNM, mBANT

Marianna is a highly qualified Nutritional Therapist who trained at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London. Her approach to nurition is naturopathic, by using whole foods and supplements to help people maintain and restore the natural balance of the body. Since no 2 people are the same, the programmes are devised with the individual in mind.

Marianna often attends courses on specific conditions and treatments, in order to stay abreast of the latest research in nutritional therapy and functional medicine.

Marianna is registered with the professional body for Nutritional Therapy, The British Association of Applied Nutitional and Nutritional Therapy (BANT)

 

Alternative Therapists

Keiko reflexologyKeiko Chiba

Reflexologist - M.A.R.

Keiko joins us as Reflexologist. Reflexology is a treatment technique where the therapist uses their fingers and thumbs to detect reflex points on the feet in order to balance the body.
She has been travelling and working around the world for the past 10 years and has gained a wealth of experience in alternative massage and reflexology. She qualified as an Aromatherapist in Japan in 2009, and an Alternative Therapist in 2010. Since moving to the UK in 2011, she has been increasing her knowledge base, doing Swedish, Deep Tissue, seated Acupressure and Pregnancy massage techniques.
She is currently studying a Diploma in Reflex Zone therapy for Pregnancy and Children.

Phillippa Johnson

Yoga Instructor

After practising yoga for over 10 years, she made the trip to Kerala in South India to further her knowledge (and passion) for yoga by completing a Sivananda yoga course.
Apart from the Sivananda method, she takes inspiration from Jivamukti and Iyengar methods, and continues to develop her skills by attending courses with world-renowned teachers, including Shiva Rea, Matthew Sanford, and Aadil Palkhivala.
Teaching a combination of dynamic flowing vinyassa (movement linked to breath) and longer held relaxation and breathing techniques, Phillippa aims to share her passion and enable others to experience the joy, contentment and balance that yoga enables us to access.

Gillian Coates

BSc(Physio)UCT, PG Dip.OM, MSOM, MOCPPP, MAACP, MCSP

Gillian CoatsGillian Coates is a Chartered Physiotherapist who trained in Cape Town, South Africa and graduated in 2000 with a BSc in Physiotherapy.

From this point, she went straight into private practice, working in a range of fields, including sports rehabilitation, orthopaedics, paediatrics, respiratory, post-operative surgical and elderly care, before opening her own musculoskeletal/sports injuries practice.

In early 2003, Gill moved to the UK where she has worked in various fields, both in private practice and on the NHS as a Senior 1 physiotherapist at St Thomas' Hospital.

She has been based in Chiswick/Hammersmith since December 2004, and set up the PhysioEdge Chiswick clinic in June 2006. In October 2009, PhysioEdge expanded their scope of service, and opened a second branch in Wandsworth. Gill also works with patients in the film, media and dance industries, keeping them able to perform on-screen and helping them remain injury-free.

In February 2008, Gill completed the Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine. She is also Pilates trained through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI).

Gill is registered with the Health Professions Council of the UK (HPC), as well as the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). She is also a member of the CSP's Private Practitioners Association, OCPPP (PhysioFirst), the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine (SOM) and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP)

Maria Guba

Practice Manager

 

Maria graduated from the University of TEchnology and Economics in Budapest, Hungary, with an MSc in Environmental Engineering in 2003.

 

She spent 13 years competing as a professional rhythmic gymnast, representing Hungary on the International circuit. She retired at the 'ripe old age' of 18 and moved into coaching. While working as an enginner, she coached gymnastics, ballet and dance before moving to London in 2004.

 

She has worked in a number of managerial roles before moving to PhysioEdge in 2011, a position which allows her to combine her work with her passion for sports, health and fitness

Bridget is a registered Emergency nurse from Melbourne, Australia.

She has joined the PhysioEdge team as our Front of House/Reception lead, and is available for all Acoounts queries.

 

 

 

Latoyah Walters

Receptionist

Latoyah joined the PhysioEdge team in September 2011, as a part-time receptionist. Her employment history consists of proving administrative support to a team of Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists within the NHS. She currently works full-time as a PA to a Director in Local Authority.

 

Latoyah has a BSc Hons degree in Buiness and Administrative management and a Foundation Certificate in PRINCE2 Project Management.
