Pilates
Pilates is a form of exercising designed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century.
It is gentle, low impact and suitable for everyone, including beginners, the elderly, pregnant women, and those who are recovering from surgery or injury.
Matwork Classes: £150 for a course of 10 classes (taken over 10 weeks) - all levels welcome!
Classes held on Thursdays at 7-8pm, Saturdays at 10-11am
If you have a group of 4 or more friends that would like a class at a different time, please let us know and we will do our best to set it up for you.
We also offer pregnancy matwork classes for 4 or more people.
A mat is all that is needed to perform a large number of exercises when you start Pilates. You might choose to continue using the matwork to get and maintain your basics, or you may choose to progress your pilates to equipment pilates, using a variety of apparatus to help you achieve your goals:
The Reformer
The Reformer consists of a series of springs, straps and pulleys on a frame with a gliding platform. It is used to tone and strengthen core muscle groups and can be used to perform hundreds of different pilates exercises. The Wunda Chair
The Wunda chair (often called the low chair) is more akin to a stool than a chair, but Joseph Pilates designed this piece of kit to double as a piece of furniture. Despite its name, it was not designed solely for sit down exercising and its versatilty is a reason for its popularity. Pilates Ring A Pilates resistance ring is a band of latex attached to handles that can be used in a number of exercises to stretch and tone major muscle groups. They are a versatile alternative to the Reformer and perfect for home use.
Pilates Ball A Pilates ball is another simple piece of equipment that is very versatile and can be used to strengthen your core, back, abdominal and pelvic muscles whether at home or in the Pilates studio.
